Parent/Teen Counselling
The dynamics between parents and growing children are complex. Teens naturally begin to assert their needs and wants more strongly, as they prepare for greater independence and their eventual move away from their parents. However, perpetual conflict, lack of cooperation, and conflicts of interest can be stressful for both parents and teens.
The goal of counselling is to deepen an understanding and appreciation of the different needs and wants of individual family members and to shift the parent/teen relationship from one of authority to one of negotiation, compromise, and increased independence.
A counsellor can mediate negotiation with fairness on all sides, working towards an increased understanding of individual perspectives.
